Quick answer

Enter your name, landlord's name, property address, monthly rent and the months, then click Download. You get one receipt per month (three to a page) with the amount in words, payment mode and signature lines, ready for the landlord to sign. If yearly rent is above ₹1,00,000, your employer will ask for the landlord's PAN. For cash rent above ₹5,000 a month, a box for a ₹1 revenue stamp is added. Names, address and PAN never leave your device.

How to use the Rent Receipt Generator (for HRA claim)

  1. Enter tenant name, landlord name, address and monthly rent.
  2. Choose the months, usually April to March.
  3. Choose how you paid: UPI, bank transfer, cheque or cash.
  4. Download the PDF, print it, and get each receipt signed by your landlord.

Worked example

₹15,000 a month from April to March gives 12 receipts on 4 A4 pages. Yearly rent is ₹1,80,000, so the tool reminds you to add the landlord's PAN.

Frequently asked questions

Is the landlord's PAN mandatory on rent receipts?

Your employer needs it if the rent you pay is more than ₹1,00,000 in a year (about ₹8,334 a month). If the landlord has no PAN, a signed declaration from the landlord is usually accepted.

Do I need a revenue stamp?

It is customary on cash receipts above ₹5,000. For UPI, bank transfer or cheque payments it is usually not needed because the payment is already recorded.

Can I claim HRA in the new tax regime?

No. HRA exemption is available only in the old tax regime. Use our HRA calculator to see how much is exempt.

Can I pay rent to my parents and claim HRA?

Yes, if you actually pay them rent and they show it as income in their tax return. Paying rent to your spouse is generally not accepted.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The receipts are created in your browser. Names, address and PAN never leave your device.
