Quick answer

From 17 September 2026 the EPF wage ceiling is ₹25,000 a month, up from ₹15,000. You and your employer each contribute 12% of basic + DA. Of the employer's 12%, 8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000 (at most ₹2,083 a month) goes to the EPS pension and the rest to your EPF account. If PF is limited to the ceiling, the maximum deduction from your salary is now ₹3,000 a month instead of ₹1,800. EPF interest for FY 2025-26 is 8.25%.

How to use the EPF Calculator (PF Calculator)

  1. Enter your monthly basic + DA (not your gross salary).
  2. Choose whether your employer calculates PF on actual basic or limits it to the ₹25,000 ceiling.
  3. Enter your age, current EPF balance and expected yearly salary rise.
  4. Read the monthly split, the old vs new ceiling comparison and your estimated balance at 58.

Worked example

Basic + DA ₹20,000 a month: you contribute ₹2,400; the employer puts ₹1,666 into EPS and ₹734 into EPF, so ₹3,134 goes into your EPF account each month. At ₹40,000 basic with PF limited to the ceiling, your deduction rises from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000 and ₹3,917 goes into EPF each month instead of ₹2,350.

Formula

Employee PF = 12% × PF wages
Employer EPS = 8.33% × min(wages, ₹25,000)
Employer EPF = 12% × PF wages − EPS
Yearly interest = rate ÷ 12 × sum of monthly running balances

Frequently asked questions

What is the new EPF wage ceiling?

₹25,000 a month of basic + DA, effective 17 September 2026. It was ₹15,000 from September 2014.

Will my take-home salary go down?

Only if your employer limits PF to the ceiling and your basic + DA is above ₹15,000. Your deduction can rise by up to ₹1,200 a month (from ₹1,800 to ₹3,000), but that money is saved in your EPF account along with a matching employer share.

I earn between ₹15,000 and ₹25,000 and had no PF. What now?

From 17 September 2026 your employer must enrol you in EPF, EPS and EDLI. No separate application is needed from you.

How much goes to the EPS pension now?

8.33% of wages up to ₹25,000, so at most ₹2,083 a month instead of ₹1,250. The rest of the employer's 12% goes to your EPF account.

What is the EPF interest rate?

8.25% for FY 2025-26, the same as the previous year.

Is EPF interest tax-free?

Mostly. Interest on your own contributions above ₹2.5 lakh a year (₹5 lakh if your employer does not contribute) is taxable.
