Mask Aadhaar Number (Hide First 8 Digits)
A hotel, landlord, office or courier asks for your Aadhaar? Share a masked copy that hides most of your Aadhaar number, instead of a full photocopy.
- No upload
- Last 4 digits only
- JPG · PNG · PDF
- GPS data removed
Quick answer
Open your Aadhaar photo, scan or PDF, drag a box over the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number and download the masked copy as JPG, PNG or PDF. The box is painted into the image itself, so it cannot be removed later, and only the last 4 digits stay visible, the same format UIDAI uses for its official masked Aadhaar. Your Aadhaar is opened inside your browser and never uploaded.
Masked copy from this tool vs official masked Aadhaar
| This tool | Official masked e-Aadhaar (UIDAI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Any photo, scan or PDF you already have | Only a freshly downloaded e-Aadhaar |
| Digits hidden | Whatever you cover (first 8 recommended) | First 8 digits, last 4 visible |
| Needs OTP on mobile | No | Yes (myAadhaar login) |
| Digital signature | No | Yes |
Where a verified copy is required, download the official masked e-Aadhaar from the myAadhaar portal (choose "masked Aadhaar"). For everyday sharing, a masked photo keeps your full number private.
How to use the Mask Aadhaar Number (Hide First 8 Digits)
- Choose your Aadhaar photo, scan or e-Aadhaar PDF (a password-protected PDF needs to be saved without the password first, or use a screenshot).
- Drag a box over the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number. Leave the last 4 visible.
- Cover the number again if it also appears on the back, and the QR code if the receiver does not need it.
- Choose JPG, PNG or PDF and click Download masked copy.
Worked example
Number 1234 5678 9012: drag over "1234 5678". The downloaded copy shows "XXXX XXXX 9012".
Frequently asked questions
What is a masked Aadhaar?
A copy of Aadhaar in which the first 8 digits of the 12-digit number are hidden and only the last 4 are shown. UIDAI offers it as an option when you download e-Aadhaar.
Is a masked Aadhaar valid?
The official masked e-Aadhaar downloaded from UIDAI is digitally signed. A masked photo made here is a privacy copy for everyday sharing; if an organisation needs a verified document, give them the official masked e-Aadhaar.
Can someone remove the mask?
No. The box is painted into the pixels of the new image and the file is re-saved, so the hidden digits are not stored anywhere in the downloaded file.
Is my Aadhaar uploaded to your server?
No. The image is opened and masked inside your browser. Nothing is sent to our server or anyone else, and location data (EXIF) in phone photos is dropped from the new file.
What is the e-Aadhaar PDF password?
The first 4 letters of your name in capital letters followed by your year of birth, for example RAHU1990. Save a copy without the password, or take a screenshot, and open that here.
Should I hide the QR code too?
The QR code also holds your details. If the person you are sharing with does not need to scan it, cover it as well.
